Situated at the sheltered end of the harbour, Akaroa delights in a sunny micro-climate, and a seaside feel.

AKAROA is the only town in New Zealand settled by a large number of French immigrants, and as such, they have left their mark in the architecture and street names of this delightful town. Less than 2 hours from Christchurch, it is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

We travel from Christchurch, around the Port Hills and the scenic Summit Road, arriving in time for you to try the shopping, have some lunch at the excellent cafes or wonderful waterfront restaurants, and then the afternoon opens up before you.

A drawcard for Akaroa is a Harbour Cruise, where you may see Blue Penguins or Fur Seals, along with the world's smallest and rarest sea Dolphin, The Hector Dolphin. You could get a little more personal and swim with these remarkable dolphins, but this needs to be prebooked so as to organise equipment and supervisors.

Back on land, enjoy the Artists Trail through the many Galleries and in some cases, the actual Artist's Studios. The works you see are available for purchase, you may even get to chat to the artists themselves if you catch them at work.

Having Cruised the Harbour, swum with the Dolphins, shopped for unique items and enjoyed all the Art, it is time to relax and be driven back to Christchurch, returning through the rural areas of Motukarara and Tai Tapu
